Brittney Griner is moving into a Russian penal colony, the exact location is not yet known.

Brittney Griner has been sent to a Russian penal colony -- an action her family is anxiously anticipating since her August conviction for drug charges.

However, the lawyers of her family don't know the location of her or where she's going according to what her Russian legal team said early Wednesday morning in Moscow.

The transfer started on Friday, her lawyers stated it was a day after U.S.

embassy officials visited Griner and were far ahead of the timeline they anticipated following Griner's appeals were denied on the appeal on Oct. 25.

Typically, her lawyers stated, transfers can take months or even weeks.

Griner's lawyers and U.S. officials were not aware of the fact that she had been transferred until Tuesday.

Griner's family may not know her location of her for a period of the moment; however, according to her legal counsel, "Notification is given via official mail and normally takes up to two weeks to be received."

Russian prisons are renowned for their harsher living standards than Moscow prison in which Griner is since she was arrested in February.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday in an announcement that the transfer was "another injustice layered on her ongoing unjust and wrongful detention."
