Democrat Gavin Newsom sails to the next round of reelection California governor

Gavin Newsom will get another term as the governor in California following his reelection on Tuesday night in a race report by the Associated Press

Newsom was backed by Republican opponent Brian Dahle, a state senator from rural Northern California.

The governor who is incumbent was in a good position after he fought off the possibility of a recall in 2017 and a majority of voters choosing to remain in his office in the 2021 special election.

Newsom has spent the majority of the fall campaigning on behalf of various Democratic campaigns and issues,

which included the ballot initiative that would add the right to abortion in California's constitution.

The governor has been focusing on his efforts to increase the rights of women to reproduce and also go after oil companies that have made huge profits despite the increasing fuel prices.

However, he's also faced criticism from those opposed to the increasing number of homeless individuals living on the streets, and for refusing to cut the state's gasoline tax at 54 cents per gallon.

The former lieutenant governor as well as the mayor of San Francisco, Newsom has been mentioned as a possible future Democratic presidential candidate.

Newsom has pledged to serve the entire four-year period in his second mandate.
