Ed Sheeran to undergo $100 million trial over copyright claim

According to reports, Ed Sheeran, an English singer, will be facing trial in his $100 million copyright lawsuit

over claims that he copied his 2014 hit song 'Thinking Out Loud' (Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On').

A Manhattan federal judge dismissed the 31-year old singer's attempts to end the ongoing copyright case.

According to Sheeran's lawyers the lawsuit was invalid as the elements in the tracks were not unique enough for copyright law to cover.

His legal team pointed out other songs, such as 'Since My Baby Lost My Baby,' that have similar elements.

However, Sheeran's lawyers argued that the lawsuit was invalid because the elements

in the two tracks were not unique enough to be covered under copyright law.
