Elon Musk proposes to charge Twitter users $20 per month for verified accounts

As the world's wealthiest person plans to overhaul Twitter, Elon Musk may consider charging users $20 per month (PS17.30), or $240 per year for a blue check on their account.

According to Platformer, the Tesla chief executive plans to make changes to Twitter's Blue subscription service.

This includes raising the $4.99 per month fee to $19.99.

Blue users who have been verified by the platform and are tagged with a blue tick indicating that they are authentic sources would have 90 days to sign-up or lose their checkmark.

Musk didn't comment on the story directly, but he tweeted to his more than 110 million followers that "the entire verification process is being overhauled right now".

On Monday morning, he also announced a Twitter poll asking users to rate how much they would pay for a blue tick.

The options were $5, $10, $15 or "wouldn’t pay". Jason Calacanis is a tech investor and Musk associate.

He created the poll to find out how much they would pay for a blue tick. Netflix Basic Subscriptions are $6.99 per month or PlayStation4.99 per month.

The overwhelming majority of those polled said that they wouldn't pay any money, but a significant minority stated they would.
