Elon Musk: Twitter deal 'temporarily on hold' overestimates spam accounts

There's another twist in the Elon Musk Twitter deal.

Elon Musk said early Friday that his plan to buy Twitter for $44 billion was "temporarily on hold"

Because of the spam or fake accounts on the social media platform

According to a Reuters report on Twitter estimating less than 5% of its accounts are fake

Twitter currently counts about 229 million daily active users

That means 5 percent of those fake accounts would be 11.45 million

Shares of Twitter plunged 14% in premarket trading Friday.

"Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users," wrote Musk

Elon Musk later added a reply stating, "Still committed to acquisition."
