Fox News has hired Olympic champion and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner as a paid commentator.

Ms. Jenner appeared on Sean Hannity’s program on Thursday

Jenner will offer analysis across the network’s media platforms.

The former decathlon gold medalist came out as transgender in 2015 and identifies as female.

She remains controversial and last year sparked fury after saying that trans girls should not compete in women’s sports.

Making her first performance on Hannity’s show on Thursday, Jenner said she was “trans but not a trans activist”.

Jenner said that she believed LGBT issues would be “very big” in the upcoming mid-term elections.

Ms. Jenner said she was “humbled” by the “unique opportunity” to address Fox’s audience.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said of Ms. Jenner’s appointment

Ms. Jenner’s Fox colleagues also sent her a warm welcome
