Virginia Giuffre was a victim of Jeffrey E. Epstein. She had for years claimed that Alan Dershowitz, a law professor, had sexually assaulted and raped her as a teenager.

On Tuesday, she settled a defamation suit against Mr. Dershowitz. She admitted that she may have made a mistake in accusing him.

Ms. Giuffre stated in a joint statement that she believed she was being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and Alan Dershowitz.

But, as a young person, it was very stressful and traumatic. Mr. Dershowitz has always denied these claims.

Her statement stated that she now realizes that her mistake in identifying Mr. Dershowitz was a mistake.

The joint statement announced that Ms. Giuffre had settled with Mr. Dershowitz, who also sued her.

It also ended two lawsuits between Mr. Dershowitz (and the lawyer David Boies) that were based on Ms. Giuffre’s accusation.

Ms. Giuffre had filed a lawsuit against Mr. Dershowitz claiming that he had made defamatory remarks about her following her accusation.

Although her lawyer did not respond to the statement, he confirmed that the settlement was reached.
