The Clippers' Coach Ty Lue said the decision to take Leonard from the bench on a minute restriction was a joint decision made by Leonard and the team's medical staff which was mostly determined by the way Leonard feels.

Lue added that the decision was based on how the Clippers plan to spread Leonard's minutes, which are limited to the start of the season.

"Just would like to keep him around until the final game, should we require his help of him," Lue said before the game. "Just to be there for him.

He was determined to do what was best for his team. So I just thought what is best for him is what helps him feel healthier.

With 15 months of being away, I was wondering what would be the best option for him in terms of health and how would he feel."

When asked whether this was Leonard's idea, Lue said, "how do you feel."
