Charisma does not always translate to other media. To prove this you need only look at the growing, moonlighting film career of Harry Styles.

Former One Direction crooner has become one of the most prominent performers in the world because of hits such as his irresistible synth-pop smash "As It was."

But you would not be able to tell even if you knew the singer from his limited set of acting credits, starting with an appearance in the swarming cast

from Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" and following that with prominent leadership roles in two big films this autumn, "Don't Worry Darling" and "My Politician."

There's nothing in these roles really makes use of Styles' charismatic performance or stage presence.

In a way the performances don't have the fervor or passion that's been cited by some as comparing the singer-songwriter with Freddy Mercury or Mick Jagger.

This could be due to design. There's something intriguing in an artist with Styles' popularity gravitating to projects that diminish his glow of fame, and then deliberately turning down the power.
