Nets suspended Kyrie Irving for at least five games; we apologize

Kyrie Irving was suspended by the Brooklyn Nets for at least five games on Thursday.

Irving's inability to "unequivocally state that he does not hold antisemitic beliefs" left him dismayed.

Irving later issued an apology for his last week's social media post about a book and a movie with antisemitic tropes.

Irving refused to make an apology during a media session after practice on Thursday.

The Nets later stated that Irving was "currently ineligible to be associated with Brooklyn Nets."

"We were shocked today when Kyrie refused to unambiguously state that he doesn't hold antisemitic beliefs or acknowledge any hateful material in the movie.

The Nets stated in a statement that this was not the first occasion he had the chance to clarify.

"An inability to denounce antisemitism whenever given the opportunity is deeply troubling, and is detrimental to our values, it is conduct that is detrimental to the team.

We believe he is not fit to be associated with Brooklyn Nets at the moment.
