Saints WR Michael Thomas will have toe surgery. He is not expected to play again this year.

Michael Thomas' season in 2022 is almost over.

Dennis Allen, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints announced Thursday that Thomas will undergo surgery to repair his toe.

Allen stated that Thomas' return date was not clear, but that he doesn't anticipate him returning this season.

After suffering recurring injuries that cost him more than half his 2020 and 2021 seasons, 2022 was Thomas' first season of significant significance.

Thomas started strong, catching 16 passes totaling 171 yards and three touchdowns in his first three games.

However, injuries continued to plague him, making him unable to play in any of the subsequent contests since Week 3.

Thursday's announcement means that 2022 will be another injury-inhibited campaign for Thomas,

who previously set the single-season receptions records in 2019 and caught 470 passes for 5,512 yards with 32 touchdowns in his first four professional seasons.

Thomas, 29 years old, has spent the past three years trying to recover from injuries and maintain this momentum.
