The loss of O'Rourke, an ex-member of Congress was three times in the last four years that he failed to gain a higher office.

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has won re-election to an additional term in office, NBC News projects, by a convincing victory over Democrat Beto O'Rourke.

At one time, earlier in the season, many analysts had been describing the contest being one of most exciting matchups in America, and O'Rourke

displaying much of the same energy he used just four years ago and nearly eliminated a rival Texas conservative senator, Senator. Ted Cruz.

Then, in May O'Rourke was a guest at the stage of an Abbott news conference one day after shootings within an elementary classroom in Uvalde killed 19 children and two teachers dead.

He was spotted on the podium criticizing Abbott's pro-gun policies.

Police took him away. In the summer, he commenced an ambitious 5600-mile "Drive for Texas."

This time around O'Rourke's campaign didn't catch the attention of others.

In recent months, polls have repeatedly shown Abbott in the lead; a new RealClearPolitics average of polls prior to the election showed Abbott ahead by more than 8 percentage points.
