This led to speculation that he might retire, which seems to be the case.

When he spoke to the NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano, Gurley confirmed that, although he's not completely retired from football, he isn't planning to play football in the near future.

"I do not think there's a doubt about that one," he said.

For the reason he was able to express his gratitude to all of the past NFL athletes, Gurley explained that he believes that it's not enough of a thing.

"I wanted to express my gratitude, man because there's plenty of males living in this world, and particularly because we're masculine alphas, it's obvious that we do not show love the way you're expected to do," he said.

"I simply wanted to make sure these guys know that I am grateful for all they've done for me, and not just on a personal level."

The Rams took Gurley at the beginning of the draft in 2015 from Georgia as the running back immediately made an impact.

Gurley rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored 10 touchdowns during his rookie season. He was awarded the offensive rookie of the Year award in the same season.
